Charitable gardeners pitched in to develop an allotment for elderly residents of Sherwood House.

Volunteers from Willmott Dixon worked on the Rydens Road site on Wednesday, August 20, and Thursday, August 21, to erect a shed, create a path of woodchips around raised beds, clear weeds and level the ground.

The Walton Charity's residential care home looks after older people for short term respite breaks, as well as permanent residency.

Kitchen staff on site have already been using courgette, squash, beans and raspberries, among others, from the plot to make nutritious meals for the residents.

A high raised flower bed will allow residents to join in with the planting and picking of the produce and flowers.

Laura Murphy, customer and community partner for Wilmott Dixon Paragon, said: "We look forward to continuing the partnership in this project and others to come."
