Vandals have caused hundreds of pounds of damage to Cobham Pistol and Rifle Club's headquarters.

Property was damaged and shears, hammers and saws were stolen in a number of incidents in recent weeks.

Member Peter Hollingsworth said vandals struck at the Portsmouth Road club on August 2, at some point over August 3 and 4, and again on August 8.

A police spokesman said: "The vandals damaged a wooden shutter, several tables and a wooden frame at the address.

"Following the incident the address has been forensically examined by Scenes of Crime Officers (Soco) and local neighbourhood officers are aware of the incident and will be conducting patrols in the area."

Mr Hollingsworth, a member of the club for 10 years, said: "I think it's probably bored teenage summer crime, but what they want with the tools who knows."

The roof of a 15m long indoor target practice area was ripped up, with parts of the back wall panels kicked in, and targets vandalised.

Mr Hollingsworth said: "It's costing in wood and costing in our time, so it's a financial and time cost.

"After each attack, it takes around six or eight weeks to recover, and we are a club that is self motivating and self relying."

The vandals left drink bottles lying around after the latest attack, which Soco have removed for DNA testing.
