A Kingston shopkeeper has been fined more than £1,300 after he admitted selling food more than a month out of date.
Manmeet Singh Malhotra, 21, sold food between 22 and 33 days out of date at the Sunrise Mini Market in Cambridge Road.
The items included sliced meat, pies, sausages, cottage cheese and desserts.
Malhotra was fined £1,305 at Lavender Hill Magistrates' Court last week, and ordered to pay £1,200 costs plus a £20 victim surcharge.
Kingston Council environmental health inspectors visited the shop last November and declared the food unfit for human consumption.
Councillor David Cunningham, cabinet member for environmental health, said: "Shopkeepers have a duty to check the dates on the food they sell and ensure that it is fit for consumption.
"We will take action against anyone who puts people’s health at risk."
