A Kingston care home has asked councillors to let it serve alcohol to its residents around the clock.

Coombe Hill Manor, in Coombe Lane West, also wants to show films.

Residents would be allowed a drink anytime day or night, but guests and staff will not be served alcohol between half past midnight and 10am, on police recommendations.

The home has 94 apartments and specialist facilities to care for residents with dementia.

Owners Signature said in their application the likelihood of disruption to neighbours was "remote".

One letter of objection was sent to Kingston Council, which said the proposed drinking hours were not "reasonable or acceptable".

Councillors will decide the application at a meeting at the Guildhall at 10.30am on Tuesday, August 26.

Well done to the owners for this, it stands to reason that residents of a nursing home should be able to enjoy a drink when they would like to just as if they were at home. Let's hope the council sees sense. The objector will be old one day and I hope they don't fancy a drink out of hours then.

Hope it is agreed, people with health issues are not always alcohol related and would be nice for them. Theres more trouble on the streets now than I would expect in this nursing home.!!
