Two burglaries in New Malden netted more than £7,000-worth of jewellery in one day for intruders.

The first, in Coombe Bank at 9.45am on Saturday, July 19, saw £6,400-worth was stolen when two men broke into a house through a window.

During the second raid, in South Lane at 12.45pm, the men broke in through the back door and stole £400-worth of property.

Police said passersby saw the men driving away from the second burglary, along the A3 towards B&Q.

The men left their car just before 1pm and ran towards the Esso petrol station.

One was in his early 20s, thin, about 5ft 6in and was wearing baggy sports clothes. The other had a beard, and was wearing a light blue T-shirt, dark long-sleeved jacket and a black cap with white letters.

Detective Constable Iain Millar said: "In addition to people who recognise these men, we would ask anyone who saw them running away from the abandoned car to contact police.

"Any information may assist police to trace these men and I would urge the public to call if they can help.

"Your information will be dealt with in strict confidence."

The men are thought to be Spanish or Latin American, and to frequent Southwark, Peckham and Brixton.

One other man has been arrested.
