More than 50 teams battled it on the Thames for the annual Dragon Boat races at the weekend.

Crowds gathered to watch the Canbury Girls and the Love Kingston crews row the stretch in three heats on Sunday.

The riverside event organised by Kingston Rotary Club is expected to raise more than £50,000 for charity this year.
Rotarian Phillip Holt said: “It was extremely busy – thousands of spectators, just ordinary people watching which was excellent.
“The weather was absolutely fantastic until the final and then the heavens opened up. But it was an incredibly successful year. People who weren’t involved were saying ‘how do we get involved?’ So next year will be even bigger and better.”

Keith Maund, who chaired the organising committee, said: “There was a great community atmosphere and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.”

The Canbury Boys from the Canbury Arms pub were winners on the day and were given a prize by Kingston mayor Ken Smith.
