A Surbiton man has been jailed after being found guilty of historical sexual offences against a child.

Watson Murdoch, 32, was a teenager when he abused a boy over a six year period from the mid 1990s to 2001 with some offences taking place in Oxshott and Tolworth.

The victim opened up about the abuse to his girlfriend 10 years later.

Following a trial that lasted nearly two weeks in May, a jury found Murdoch, of Ewell Road, guilty of two counts of indecent assault on a male under 16 and one count of rape of a male under 16.

He was found not guilty of another count of indecent assault and indecency with a child.

Murdoch was sentenced to six years in jail at Kingston Crown Court on Friday, July 11.

During the trial, prosecutor Serena Gates said the defendant, now in his early 30s, was a teenager at the time the incidents happened.

She added the abuse started with kissing and groping and had made the victim feel "uncomfortable" and "wrong".
