An empty pool hall above Tolworth Poundland could become six flats, writes Sarah Howden.

A planning application aims to convert the first floor of 122-124 Tolworth Broadway into three one-bedroom and three two-bedroom flats.

Hot Shots American Pool and Snooker club had been closed for about two years.

Four apartments on the second floor of the building have already been given planning permission.

I am surprised these have not been earmarked for more much needed student accommodation.

Hopefully, this kind of development will also encourage Poundland to stay around beyond their 1st year and the road at the back could get a much needed injection of monies. Collaboration by all the owners could finally make it safe for drivers and pedestrians alike.

Though student accommodation locally could work well, unless the Uni or college are already in discussion with the developer it may be too late.....

I was only joking about the student accommodation, seeing that almost every development story on the Comet website seems to be about another massive student block going up!

&anotherthing, I spoke to the manager of Poundland a few months back about this one year deal, albeit I heard it was nine months but either way, I was told quite categorically that poundland is here to stay, which no doubt you will agree is good news. All we need now is for Aldi to get the whip out and finish that store of theirs and a lot of us will be quids-in. Maybe in another time zone they could improve that service road so that traffic could pass down it (One way only) and then we could have the Broadway pedestrianised... That way we could get shot of that awfully dangerous Greenway.
