Boys with heavenly voices have been invited to an open day at Hampton Court Palace’s royal chapel.

The Choral Foundation, which promotes and preserves the unique heritage of choral music at the palace, will hold an open day on Saturday, September 6, when 25 boys can find out what being a choirboy is like.

Manager of the Choral Foundation Michele Price hopes children from nearby schools will grab the one-off opportunity.

She said: "I am excited by the prospect of finding the next intake of musical talent that will continue to keep this 500 year old tradition of boy choristers alive at Hampton Court."

Visitors can take part in a question and answer session with existing choir parents before guests enjoy a performance in the chapel followed by a cream tea.

Candidates should ideally be aged between eight to 10 years old, but no singing experience is required.

If successful, a boy would attend rehearsals two evenings a week after school and sing on Sundays and be paid a small stipend by the Queen.

People are asked to apply to attend the day. For details and an application form, visit chapelroyal.org.
