Carnivals from all over the world took over New Malden as floats carrying samba dancers and Venetian gondolas took centre stage for Malden Fortnight.

Mini drummers from Coombe Hill Infants’ School were also on the beat and mayor Ken Smith along with his mayoress attended the colourful extravaganza..

The annual parade, now in its 25th year, saw 350 children and adults make their way from Christ Church car park to New Malden High Street and back on Saturday afternoon.

Surrey Comet:

Peter Findlater, chairman of the Malden Fortnight committee, said: "The highlight was watching all the children dressed up in various colours. It was a very musical event, one of the most musical we have ever had and certainly the most colourful.

"One school even took on a Venetian carnival theme with masks and gondolas – their imagination was amazing.

"It went really well. We had about two and a half thousand people watching it on the day."

Surrey Comet:

Drum major Franklin Barrington from Kingston and Malden Scout and Guide band led the way for the scouts.

Malden Fortnight’s fun day in Beverley Park the following day also attracted crowds with its welly boot throwing, magic door hunt and live music.
