Developers are fighting for every scrap of land in Kingston, even the bits you might not think of as prime real estate.

Plans are afoot to demolish a former public toilet in Chessington and build a single-storey house with two ensuite bedrooms.

The public convenience, on Hook Road opposite Trewenna Drive, boasted eight stalls in two rooms.

The new house from applicant Raz Nasiri, whose registered address is a town house in Slough, will cram a kitchen, dining and lounge area into the 64 sq m footprint.

Elsewhere in Kingston an old public toilet in Claremont Road, Surbiton, is also set to re-open, as a cafe.

Real estate in the borough now costs £4,248 per sq m - up 38 per cent from five years ago, according to Halifax.
