A shoplifter carried kicking and screaming from the Sainsbury's at Surbiton station has been put behind bars awaiting his sentence.
Shoppers heard screams from the back of the store on Wednesday evening before seeing a man bundled into the back of a police van by five police officers.
Homeless Andrew Thompson, 21, could be heard shouting "Leave me alone. You're hurting me."
Officers could be seen checking for minor injuries on themselves after the arrest.
He pleaded guilty on Friday to a common assault on Robert Hudson, believed to be a store worker, stealing four cans of Stella Artois worth £4.80 and criminal damage of a kettle.
Magistrates at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court ordered Thompson to be kept in custody until June 30 when he will be sentenced.
