A doorstep fraudster who fleeced a Chessington pensioner out of almost £60,000 by overcharging for building work has been jailed for five years.

Christopher Heron, 25, from Cranleigh in Surrey, cold-called the 65-year-old last year, and charged him £95,000 for works that should have cost just £7,000.

Kingston Trading Standards were alerted when the victim paid £57,000 to Heron's company, Everest Maintenance, which was being investigated by Cheshire West and Cheshire Council.

Heron had already swindled more than £23,000 from two other people in the north west.

He was visited by Trading Standards officers while at the house in Chessington, and told to stop working. He was arrested on December 14.

At the time of his arrest Heron was on licence from prison, where he had been serving a 20 month sentence for fraud.

He was sentenced at Cheshire Crown Court last week.
