Surbiton’s extensive Georgian housing could have a new neighbour if a plan to build new flats is given the go-ahead.
Thornhill Properties has submitted plans for a new three-storey block with a basement in St Philip’s Road, which it hopes to turn into four two-bedroom flats in a similar style to neighbouring buildings.
The site, currently a vacant lot, is opposite St Philip’s Road car park, on land behind 27-29 St James’ Road.
The scheme is similar to one approved on appeal some years ago, but narrower because the developer was unable to buy more land.
Planners said the building would have a design “wholly in keeping with its surroundings”, and its construction would mean “the removal of an eyesore site”.
Residents have until Friday, June 20, to tell Kingston Council what they think of the plans.
