Yet another extravaganza of theatre, film, music and dance will be coming to Kingston for this year’s International Youth Arts Festival (IYAF).

The 2014 IYAF brochure has been published by organisers Creative Youth, detailing three weeks’ worth of entertainment and culture from all over the world.

After a week of workshops beginning on July 5, the festival will officially open with its Raise The Roof gala night at the Rose Theatre on July 11, featuring tasters of what’s to come throughout the month.

And there is plenty going on until July 27, across 15 different venues.

This year’s line-up includes theatre adaptations of George Orwell’s 1984, Chaucer’s The Miller’s Tale and Shakespeare’s as You Like It, as well as original works by the likes of the Untold Theatre Company and Smoking Apples.

There will be music from a host of bands and artists, including disabled group Orpheus Rising, Euphonix community choir, African Youth orchestra Agbenorhevi and Tankus The Henge, who will recreate the Last Waltz - the famous final concert by The Band.

The first ever Ignition Dance festival will also take place on July 12, showcasing talent from across the borough and culminating in a spectacular evening show at the Rose Theatre, with a special guest performance by Kingston’s own Ballet Boyz.

In her forward to the brochure, Creative Youth artistic director Aniela Zaba says: “The magic the festival brings is very special to all of us, allowing our local community and audiences from around the country of all ages to enjoy the talents of the very best of young people’s work from around the world. “Come and see our opening concert, Raise The Roof on July 11 and get a taste of what’s coming up.

“Mostly, enjoy yourselves. Eek every moment out. Smile. We only get this once a year.

Tickets for IYAF 2014 are on sale now, with an early bird festival pass to all shows available until June 1, priced at £80 per adult, and £40 concessions.

A normal festival pass costs £95 for adults and £55 concessions.
