Waitrose has no plans to extend its New Malden branch despite a £24.6m sale.
The site in New Malden High Street was sold by Eskmuir Properties to Aberdeen Investment Management.
The deal was completed three weeks ago and will see the supermarket chain stay in the building until at least 2039.
Waitrose currently pays £1m-a-year for its 47,539sq ft building, which includes a delicatessen, fishmonger and butcher counter, six retail units, including one sublet to Iceland, and 140 car parking spaces.
Matthew Brown from Investment practice Lewis Ellis, who oversaw the sale, said: “Waitrose took a lease over the whole site. If at some point they want to extend on the site they could expand on to that.
“Now there are no plans to do this right now, but they do have the option – until 2039.”
But a spokeswoman from the supermarket chain said: “We have no plans to extend our New Malden branch.”
