A woman has been hit by a car this afternoon in Wheatfield Way in Kingston town centre.

The woman in her 50s received a head injury in a crash which London Ambulance said was between a car and a bicycle near Wheatfield Way and Brook Street at about 1.45pm.

Police said the people in the car were unhurt.

Paramedics treated the woman before she was taken to St George’s Hospital by road accompanied by the London Air Ambulance doctor.

James Wingfield, who arrived after the crash, said the driver of the car was breathalysed after the crash, probably as a matter of routine.

Another witness said: "A woman got hit. She is severely injured. I'm looking at a helicopter right in front of me. They have been with her for quite a while. It looks bad."

This article was corrected after wrongly reporting the injured woman was a cyclist
