Preliminary work at the Malden Rushett crossroads is due to begin next week, ahead of the delayed project to overhaul the junction of Leatherhead Road and Fairoak Lane.

Trees and bushes at the north side of Fairoak Lane are to be removed, Transport for London (TfL) said, to allow further work in June.

TfL said: “The current signalised junction has a poor safety record for right turning vehicles turning off the Leatherhead Road.

“The proposed scheme will address the right turning movements by introducing dedicated right turning signals on the Leatherhead Road.”

The preliminary work will be carried out between 9am and 4pm every day for four weeks, from Thursday, May 15.

The main project, with a contract handed to Enterprise Mouchel, will begin in September, Mayor of London Boris Johnson promised last month.
