Three hospices of which Max Clifford was a patron, have told how they no longer wish to be associated with the PR guru.

Clifford, 71, of Onslow Road, Hersham, was found guilty of eight indecent assaults earlier today.

Following the verdict at Southwark Crown Court this afternoon, Nigel Harding, CEO of Woking and Sam Beare Hospices, said: “The charity of Woking and Sam Beare Hospices has noted the decision of the court today and will be informing Mr Clifford that we no longer wish him to act as a patron for the charity.”

Clifford became a patron of the two hospices in 2009 and since his verdicts were delivered this afternoon, the hospices have removed all trace of the Hersham resident from their website.

Clifford was also a patron of Shooting Star Chase childrens hospice.

In a statement, David Burland, chief executive of Shooting Star Chase, said:  “Max Clifford became a patron of Shooting Star Chase children’s hospice in 2011. Prior to this, he was a supporter of Chase hospice care for children.

“Safeguarding the children and families supported by Shooting Star Chase is of upmost importance. None of our patrons have unsupervised access to the children or young people and all staff with access to children undergo disclosure and barring services checks.

“Furthermore all staff are required to attend a yearly mandatory safeguarding children training session.

“In light of Mr Clifford being found guilty of indecent assault, Shooting Star Chase can confirm that Mr Clifford is no longer a patron of the charity.”

The children's charity has also since removed all mentions of Clifford from their website.

Speaking after the verdicts, Jenny Hopkins, deputy chief crown prosecutor for Crown Prosecution Service London, said: "Today’s verdicts provide a long-denied justice to the victims of serious sexual offences. I would like to thank these victims for having had the courage to come forward and give evidence.

"The victims of sexual abuse, whenever it may have taken place, should know that police and prosecutors will listen.

“It is only right that we now take some time to consider our position on the hung count and we will update the court accordingly.”
