A group of cottages in Norbiton could be given local heritage status if Kingston Council approves the plans next week.
An application by the Norbiton Residents’ Association to add numbers one to seven Station Road to the borough’s list of buildings of townscape merit has been recommended for approval by council officers.
The Station Road cottages are the oldest houses in the so-called Norbiton ‘village’.
Developed between 1840 and 1939, they are some of the borough’s few remaining 19th century artisan cottages.
According to a council report, the homes were built to accommodate skilled workers, and reflect the borough’s industrial heritage.
Councillors on the Kingston town neighbourhood committee will decide on April 2 whether to approve the plans.
