Metronomy return to Kingston after six year hiatus

The Brighton band will be heading back to Banquet Records’ New Slang night on Thursday for the first time in six years, for a launch show in support of new album Love Letters.

The group last wowed fans at New Slang in 2008 – and a lot has changed in that time.

Back then, it was difficult to know whether the band were even a band – lead singer and principle songwriter Joseph Mount had essentially recorded second album Nights Out on his own, with friends Gabriel Stebbing and Oscar Cash helping out.

Fast forward to today and Metronomy are very much an ensemble, albeit with Stebbing since departed and Anna Prior and Olugbenga Adelekan joining Mount and Cash.

Love Letters is their fourth studio album and is set for release on March 10, following up from their 2011 album The English Riviera, which received a Mercury Prize nomination.

The band is well known for their live performances, which include routines and light shows. Notably they like to push light sticks to their chests.

Most recently radio DJ Zane Lowe named Metronomy’s upcoming single Love Letters as Hottest Record in the World.

Banquet Records manager Jon Tolley said: “New Slang is über excited to welcome back Metronomy to play an album release show the week before Love Letters is released.

“The album has already been picking up some excellent reviews and we cannot wait to hear these new songs live - indie-synth-pop beauties galore.”

As always, the music carries on long after the bands have finished, with DJs playing indie hits until 2am.
