The mother of a murdered New Malden teenager who was shot down at an ice rink seven years ago today, will hold a vigil for the anniversary of his death.

Seventeen-year-old James Andre Smartt-Ford was gunned down in front of more than 300 young people at a disco night at Streatham Ice Arena in Streatham on February 3, 2007.

Nobody has ever been charged with his murder, although there have been 18 arrests including seven on the night of the shooting with no further action ever taken.

Mother Tracey Smartt-Ford has organised the candlelight vigil outside the ice rink from 5.30pm this evening in memory of the former Coombe Boys’ School and Carshalton College pupil.

She has also set up the Jags Foundation, a not for profit community company, which aims to address youth violence.

James known as Dre to family and friends, was in the area at the bottom of the stairs leading onto the ice, when he was approached by a black youth wearing dark clothing.

He was shot twice but he managed to stagger a few metres onto the ice before he collapsed.

The Metropolitan Police is still offering a reward of up to £20,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and prosecution of those responsible for James’ death.

Anyone with information should call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
