Fear not, pizza fans of Surbiton.

Village Pizza in Claremont Road is closed only temporarily for refurbishment due to water damage – and will re-open, according to a recorded message.

As reported last week, the shop will not face extra competition in the form of upscale chain Basilico, after councillors rejected plans for a new shop in St Mark’s Hill.

Good news. I don't think people want to see too many pizza places in Surbiton, but this one is reliable, cheap and open late. I can't ever recall seeing any trouble outside unlike McDonald's either.

It is interesting that in this picture, the shop next door was about to open as 'Southern Brew'. That wasn't that long ago, but that place has already been replaced by the 'Press Room'. That shop must turn over more than any other in the town centre. I can remeber it being known by at least five names in the last 10 years. The current place seems great, so hopefully it will last a bit longer.
