Try your luck at Love Kingston Day Rich Man Poor Man event
Try your luck and either eat like a king or get a taste of the breadline at a Love Kingston Day fundraiser.
Kingston College’s Arthur Cotterell Theatre will be the setting for Rich Man Poor Man, a dinner and dance-style event with a difference.
Rather than choosing their courses before arriving, guests draw straws to see who gets to eat a sumptuous gourmet meal and who enjoys dinner courtesy of Kingston Foodbank.
The £20 a head evening will also feature live bands including Kingston College band Fear and Loathing, Franklin Collective and Fab Four tribute act The Applecore Beatles.
Following the success of the inaugural Rich Man Poor Man event last year in support of the foodbank, organiser Tessa Kind has this time teamed up with Love Kingston to raise cash for all five of the campaign's charities.
Fear and Loathing, from Kingston College, are among the bands playing the event
She said: "Last year was the first time I heard that there was a Foodbank in Kingston.
“I was upset that in our supposedly wealthy borough there was a need for basic food donations to be handed out to families in crisis.
“I saw an opportunity to bring together various community groups and fundraisers to put on a special event to raise funds for the foodbank and I pitched it to Paul Pickhaver the manager.
“He loved it and offered support by providing publicity, organising raffle prizes and providing the ingredients we needed for the poor man meal.
“News spread and the evening sold out very quickly. Just over £1000 was raised but more importantly people became aware of the struggle some families face in our own neighbourhoods and pledged continued support.
“I am thrilled to have been asked to get involved in Love Kingston Day and I'm really looking forward to this next event.”
Rich Man Poor Man starts at 7pm and finishes at 11pm on Friday, February 14.
