The Beatles famously proclaimed that All You Need Is Love.

And a choir will be hoping to get that message across when it performs a fundraising concert at the Rose Theatre for Love Kingston Day next month.

The Euphonix Choir will be taking to the stage to perform a selection of popular love songs on February 14 – including the Beatles classic.

It is just one of the many events taking place in Kingston this Valentine’s Day in support of Love Kingston, that raises money for five borough-based charities – women’s refuge Hestia, youth charity Oxygen, credit union Kingston Savers, Kingston Churches Action on Homelessness and Kingston Foodbank.

The choir’s Marilyn Mason said: “We enjoy giving concerts. Love Kingston Day gives us an opportunity to perform some new songs while raising money for five very worthwhile local causes without having to choose between them, which can be hard.

“Even better, some of the money we raise will be match-funded for the Kingston Legacy Fund.”

As well as the choir, solo sets will be performed by Hannah Rose Tristam, who will be singing Edith Piaf songs and a cover of My Funny Valentine.

It will be the second annual Love Kingston Day, held every February 14.

While couples all over the world show their love and appreciation for their other halves that day, the Love Kingston appeal encourages residents and business to do something philanthropic for their borough, through events, collections and shows.

This year, Love Kingston fundraising manager Elaine Miller has set the ambitious target of raising £100,000 on the day alone.

She said: “If, as a nation, we can do it for Comic Relief, Sport Relief and BBC Children in Need, why don’t we do it for our own community? “We’ll be able to see the direct impact and outcomes from money raised.

“We’ve got loads of support already to help make this happen.

“And, if you’re not already involved, it would be great if you can help us spread the word to your network, helping to engage others, along with being part of the team and the fundraising action on the day too.”
