A bored housewife and a married doctor meet at a railway station – and so begins one of cinema’s most enduring love stories.

Brief Encounter has had audiences in tears since 1945, and now the Noel Coward-penned film will open up a new season of classic cinema at the Rose Theatre in Kingston this Valentine’s weekend.

Films at the Rose will open on Sunday, February 16, with David Lean’s timeless romance starring Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard.

It will mark the beginning of a new programme of much-loved films from down the years to be shown at the High Street venue, with other titles due to be announced soon.

Audiences will also be able to vote for their own favourite film, with winners being played on a big screen as part of the season.

Brief Encounter will be shown in the main auditorium at 7pm. Tickets cost £8, or £5 for pit cushions.
