Geordie indie rockers Maxïmo Park are set to prove they have still got it at the launch of their fifth studio album at New Slang later this month, writes Tom Ambrose.

The energetic five-piece, who formed in 2000, are preparing to embark on a tour of the UK and Europe next month - but not before stopping off in Kingston to promote new album Too Much Information.

Fronted by the charismatic Paul Smith, the band have enjoyed a string of successes over the years such as Going Missing, Graffiti and Our Velocity.

Banquet Records' Jon Tolley says: "We put on about 200 gigs a year but few excite us as much as Maxïmo Park's Kingston debut.

"The indie rock mainstayers have been around for the best part of a decade, it’s what we and you have grown up on and they’re still as relevant now as they were with A Certain Trigger. "We cannot wait for this one."

It is a rare chance to catch the boys from Newcastle in such an intimate setting, with the Apply Some Pressure stars accustomed to playing to sold-out arenas and festivals across the globe.

Maxïmo Park, who have two top ten albums under their belts, become the latest big name to perform at New Slang, following in the footsteps of fellow indie trailblazers Franz Ferdinand and Liam Gallagher's Beady Eye.

Tickets go on sale from the Banquet Records website today at 11am.
