A gardener already serving time in prison for growing 51 cannabis plants in his garage has been ordered to pay £10,000 or face more time inside.

Freddie Lee, 55, of Thornhill Road in Surbiton was sentenced to two years in prison after he was found guilty of being concerned in the production of a controlled class B drug at Kingston Crown Court in January last year.

During his trial jurors heard he told officers he had just been house-sitting for his wife but later changed his story and said he had rented his garage out to be used as a storage facility.

There police found plants of up to 110cm in height.

A proceeds of crime confiscation hearing at Kingston Crown Court ordered him to pay back money he would have made or face a further six months in prison on Friday, January 10.
