A prolific shoplifter is back behind bars for Christmas after stealing eight bottles of champagne from Bentalls.

Homeless Christopher Hedges, 42, was handed a 10 week prison sentence when he pleaded guilty at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on December 9.

Magistrates said his thieving from Bentalls two days before was made more serious by his regular pattern of offending.

I don't actually think 10 weeks is too bad a result given a lot of the ridiculous sentences that we have seen handed down lately.

There is not point hitting this type of thief in the pocket as he will have no funds to pay the fine anyway.
