Thames Water will be carrying out emergency sewer cleaning for the next five nights after yet more fat deposits were found clogging Kingston's drains.

After the chaos caused by the town's notorious fatberg beneath London Road in the summer, another area of Kingston has fallen victim to the greasy curse.

This time, the problem has hit Kingston Hall Road, close to the junction with High Street, where an "excessive build up of fat deposits" has been reported, with blockages causing internal flooding issues.

Work to clear the drains will start tonight at 9.30pm and continue until 5am.

It is hoped the job will be finished by Sunday morning.

Three-way temporary traffic lights will be in place at the roundabout on High Street during the works.

Lane closures will be in place in Kingston Hall Road at these times.

Thames Water only finished work to repair drains beneath London Road a month ago, after a 15-tonne 'fatberg' of cooking oil and wet wipes was discovered in August.

The subsequent roadworks caused huge traffic jams in both directions from Kingston Hill and through the one way system at Cromwell Road.

Several business owners in the area complained the works had affected trade, and Kingston Council threatened to fine Thames Water if the works were not completed by Christmas.

Although engineers packed up for the festive period on November 15, they will return sometime in January to finish the job.
