Bishop out of Residence hope to be winners in Kingston Best Bar None 2013
Competition is heating up as Kingston town centre’s pubs and clubs battle it out for the Best Bar None Awards this year.
With just weeks to go until the awards ceremony, drinking establishments are working harder than ever to welcome punters.
Riverside venue the Bishop out of Residence has been relying on that “personal touch” to get ahead.
Tanya Tozer, manager at the Bishops Hall pub, said: “Our staff are amazing – they are energetic and passionate, We have some real quirky staff as well.
“We don’t have a house wine so every staff member will recommend their favourite and talk about it.
“People appreciate that and it makes a big difference. It is about going that extra mile and making it personal.”
This pub focuses on having a homely pub-like feel and by night there are candles, lanterns and fairy lights dotted around for ambience.
Miss Tozer said: “When I come to work it’s like a second home – a living room. If we won we would have a good drink afterwards – it would be nice to get out and be on the other side of the bar for once.”
The Surrey Comet will be collecting votes for the only two categories decided by a public vote this year – Best Behind the Bar and Best Atmosphere.
But organisers Kingstonfirst will be visiting town centre pubs, bars and clubs with a judging panel over the next few weeks to decide on other categories such as best door staff, best pub and best late night venue.
Ros Morgan, chief executive of Kingstonfirst, said: “The Best Bar None awards are the perfect way to celebrate Kingston’s night time economy.
With two categories this year voted by the public it really demonstrates who stands out from the crowd and is an accolade all winners are proud to have.
“The judging this year has been very difficult with a record breaking number of quality entries and we cannot wait for the awards night.”
Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at the Hippodrome on Tuesday, November 12.
