Welcome to Bat Gardens: new road named after Sopwith's flying boat
A new cul-de-sac in Kingston will be called Bat Gardens.
The street, to be built off Park Road as part of a development of five new homes, was named during a Kingston town neighbourhood committee meeting on Wednesday.
The name was suggested by councillor Geoff Austin, as a nod to both the Sopwith Bat flying boat built at the former Sopwith aircraft factory nearby, and also the colony of bats that roost in St Luke’s Church.
Two names were rejected – Mondial Close and Minnitt Close.
