A New Malden mother whose baby has a rare eye cancer is taking a stand tonight, writes Sam Petherick.

Abigail Wheatcroft is taking part in the Carrots Nightwalk around London at 7pm to raise money for Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT).

Her 19-month-old daughter, Amelia, suffers from the same rare eye cancer retinoblastoma that she and her father suffered in infancy.

It affects roughly 50 people in the UK each year and may cause blindness if not treated early.

Ms Wheatcroft said:"I want to help raise money for CHECT to carry on with the amazing work they are doing supporting families and raising awareness of this condition."

Carrots Nightwalk is taking place in three other cities tonight – Birmingham, Cardiff and Glasgow.

Over the last two years its participants raised over £200,000 from walking around London.
