Commuters are facing gridlock following the closure of part of Kingston’s one-way system.

Flooding in the railway underpass has caused tailbacks throughout the town centre.

Workers from contractor Flowline are pumping away the water, which is understood to have been blocking the road since the early hours of this morning.

Richard Reed, a resident of Seven Kings Way, said he had had to take an alternate route when he arrived home at 12.30am today.

Dr Reed said: “This has happened before. There seems to be no contingency plan.

“It is Monday morning – people have to go to work.

"They are pumping it out and going and dumping it in another sewer."
