Brave diners descended on the Spice House in Tolworth Broadway last night to take on the restaurant’s inaugural Spice Challenge.
Eight scorching chicken wings – and just 15 minutes in which to eat them.
Contestants, including Surrey Comet editor David Rankin (pictured above) and reporter Hana Hausmeister, were not allowed to drink anything during the challenge.
But a glass of milk stood waiting for those who could not handle the heat.
Just two of the ten contestants were able to finish.
Ray Heaney, 46, from Sutton (pictured below) finished 30 seconds ahead of Mr Rankin.
According to the rules, both had to wait five minutes after eating their wings before they were allowed to take a drink.
They were each presented with framed certificates and a t-shirt by Spice House waitresses Karen Trinidad and Serena Batish.
One of the gallant losers during the challenge: Toby Conway-Hughes, 33, from Raynes Park, managed to down four-and-a-half wings.
