Frozen tree between Leatherhead and Chessington amazes motorists
10:40am Wednesday 13th March 2013 in News By Alice Foster, Reporter
Drivers could be forgiven for thinking a new ice age had started yesterday when they spotted this tree encased in ice by the roadside.
But although the temperatures had plummeted to well below freezing a burst water main played a key part in the ice sculpture near the Star inn on Leatherhead Road, just north of Leatherhead.
A man, who saw it at midday, said a water main had burst and flooded the road.
Cars had driven through the water, spraying water onto the tree where it froze.
