A man who threatened to set his family and police officers on fire will receive mental health treatment.

Paul Burton, 47, of Hartfield Road in Chessington, doused his family with petrol and threatened police with a lighter last March.

He was given a 12-month supervised community order at Kingston Crown Court this morning.

Burton will also receive 60 days’ treatment for mental health issues as part of the order.

Police sergeants Lisa Maslen and Gary Costello and PCs Sam Holden, Jemma Lyons and Dave Akers were all commended at January’s police awards for their bravery in handling the incident.

I hope the court are prepared to take full responsibilty if this person should casue harm to anyone in the future.

There is no chance of anyone taking responsibity for anything any more in this country!

He got 12 months community order and 60 days mental health help. Why not through in a lighter, what is the matter with the courts he doused his family in Petrol, he should be locked up in an institution were he cannot harm anybody ever again. He has to be a nut job!
