Sutton and East Surrey Water: Rainfall 'below average' for first time in months
7:00am Sunday 10th March 2013 in News By Mike Pyle
Rainfall dips below average for the first time in months
Rainfall dipped below average last month for the first time in half a year.
Sutton and East Surrey Water reported rainfall of 44mm in February, compared to an average of 55mm.
However, the company says its underground reserves and its surface reservoir in Bough Beech, Kent, are still well above normal levels after the wet summer and winter.
Mike Hegarty, Sutton and East Surrey Water's operations director, said: "Our resource situation is healthy as we progress through the crucial winter recharge period.
"This is in complete contrast to the same period in the previous two years when a lack of rainfall led to a drought being declared."
The company serves over half-a-million people from Morden, Sutton, south Croydon to west Kent.
