Young people picked up spades and got their hands dirty while planting trees on Saturday.

About 50 members of Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) planted silver birches, oaks and other trees at Horton Country Park in Epsom.

The association joined forces with the Lower Mole Project and Epsom Council for the planting.

Lutfur Rehman, regional youth leader for the Putney, New Malden and Kingston AMYA, said: "Events such as these tree plantations help to promote good community relations and offer us a welcome opportunity to contribute positively towards this great area and country.

"The Prophet Muhammad, who was a mercy for mankind, was particular about protecting the environment and planting trees. It is his noble example which is the inspiration behind this initiative."
