Eden Street may have to be closed again as Thames Water predict more collapses on the sewer line.

Commuters are suffering bus disruptions for the sixth day despite claims from the water company that Eden Street would reopen yesterday.

The road has been blocked off since Friday due to a collapsed sewer. Buses on the street have been diverted to Wheatfield Way.

Thames Water claimed they had finished resurfacing the road yesterday morning, but there is still a large pothole.

A Thames Water spokesman said: “Due to the location of the pipe, we needed to close the road so that we could dig down and repair the collapse.

"Repairs were finished on Tuesday and we are currently reinstating the road surface.

"We aim to be finished by Friday and are sorry for any inconvenience caused by this work.

"We also believe there may be further collapses on this sewer line so may need to return in the future to carry out additional repairs."
