Planet Pizza in Tolworth Broadway has applied to Kingston Council to add an off-licence to the business.

It hopes to be able to sell alcohol from 11am to 1am the next day, from Sunday to Thursday, and from 11am to 2am the next day on Fridays and Saturdays.

The council’s licensing sub-committee met on Wednesday to consider the proposal and will report back on Tuesday.

One hundred and sixteen residents and businesses were consulted by the council, with responses received from one resident and two businesses.

Resident David Fry told the council the application could encourage other fast-food shops to apply and that granting the licence would lead to more litter on the street and threats to passersby.

In an email he said: “I can think of no logical reason why responsible people would need to buy alcohol at a fast-food outlet, particularly until 2am, other than to drink in the street.

"It is inconceivable this application should be considered, in the light of Government attempts to reduce alcohol sales and drunkenness."

Surely this is no different to our local Chinese takeaway selling beer? I think having alcohol with dinner is acceptable for most people, and is unlikely to cause a sudden rise in street drunks.

This is just more convenient than having to go to the corner shop separately for your drinks.

Please, who is the David Fry referenced in your article?

Does he claim to speak for residents or businesses in the Tolworth area?
