Commuters in Kingston faced a slow crawl to work this morning, as a series of road works clogged the streets.

Motorists were hit with delays of up to an hour, as water, gas and energy companies carry out a number of work programmes through the borough.

In Surbiton, Surbiton Hill Road is closed both ways as Thames Water, Southern Gas Networks and UK Power Networks install new supplies all this week.

Traffic is being diverted down St Marks Hill and through Claremont Road, causing long tailbacks.

There is also emergency works to repair damaged manhole covers taking place in Upper Brighton Road.

Commuters between New Malden and Mostpur Park are also facing long delays, as Southern Gas Networks continues with a major reinstallation programme in Malden Road.

Temporary traffic lights are in place and buses are being diverted. The works are expected to last another nine weeks.
