Latchmere House meetings to discuss future of prison

People are being invited to have their say on the future of the former Latchmere House prison site.

Richmond and Kingston councils launched a consultation for the redevelopment of the Ham site, which is owned by the Ministry of Justice.

The councils have identified requirements for any redevelopment of the site, which include the need to be residential led, mixed use and respectful of the area’s character and heritage.

Councillor Virginia Morris, cabinet member for environment, said there had been a lot of speculation over the future of the site since the prison closed in 2011.

She said: “It’s important that everyone has a say in the future redevelopment and I urge everyone to complete the questionnaire and attend the consultation event at the end of January.”

A consultation event is due to take place on Wednesday, January 30, from 6pm at Tiffin Girls School, in Richmond Road, Kingston.

A planning brief will also be available to see at Tudor Road library, in York Street, Twickenham, and at Guildhall, in High Street, Kingston.
