A former 'Buddhist temple' has been transformed into a race course for adrenaline-seeking drivers.

The Race Centre by the Ace of Spades in Hook Rise North, Hook, opened its doors for the first time this week.

The games and entertainment venue will now be open seven days a week with a bar on site and the chance to drive Mini Coopers, Lamborghini Gallardos and Formula Fords.

Manager Julian Gibbs said: “I think it was a Buddhist temple here before and it still has quite a calm atmosphere.

“Everyone still seems to end up sitting cross-legged.”

But Jim Taylor, vice-chairman of the Chessington Residents’ Association, said: “They always seem to cram these things into Chessington somehow.

"We are not for it. We are still trying to get in touch with the council about their change of use of planning application.”
