Welcome to your new-look Surrey Comet

Since its birth in 1854, the Surrey Comet has strived to be a mirror image of Kingston’s social, political, industrial and cultural evolution.

As features editor June Sampson writes in the Comet today, we have covered all the issues of the day, from the freezing weather that robbed farm labourers of their jobs in 1885 to the official opening of Kingston bypass in 1927, and the devastating blaze that left Madingley tower block residents homeless in 2010.

It is this connection to our community that led us to consider taking the next step in that journey with our readers and rejuvenate the newspaper to reflect their changing views, news and aspirations.

Your revamped Surrey Comet is packed with regular features such as the education, heritage and Kingston Life pages.

The education feature will champion the area’s excellent schools while Vintage Kingston will highlight the history that made headlines in the paper and provide a forum for readers’ memories.

The new Kingston Life will celebrate unsung heroes who make up the fabric of this multicultural and vibrant area.

Edward Davey MP starts a new 'In My View' column, which will feature a different person each week, and we are excited to unveil The One Show presenter Angellica Bell as our weekly Mum’s The Word columnist.

The new-look Surrey Comet also features The Source, where people can find the cream of entertainment events.

We hope you enjoy your new Surrey Comet and share our enthusiasm for all the paper has accomplished over the past 158 years and celebrate what we hope to be another 158 years – and more.
