I guess you could say I am a little old fashioned, but I really wanted Elijah to be baptised.

It was something Michael and I had discussed for a while and we both agreed it would be good to do.

So, last Sunday that is exactly what we did. The heavens opened that morning, but nothing was going to dampen our spirits (pun intended).

We had met the lovely Reverend Jonathan Wilkes a few months back (and no he is not Robbie Williams’s best mate…at least I don’t think he is) and felt he would be the ideal person to baptise our son.

His church is All Saints in Kingston, an ancient building steeped in history, where seven Saxon kings of England were crowned. No pressure on my little man then.

The organ playing, the choir sang and the actual blessing itself did not faze him one bit – he simply looked the reverend in the eye and gave him the nod of approval.

There was only one moment when he wanted to jump inside the font and another when he tried to grab a candle, but luckily his dad had a firm grip on him.

No screaming baby and he went to sleep straight after his bit was over.

One thing I love about this type of event is it allows friends and family to come together and celebrate.

We had a wonderful turnout and filled the church with singing, chatting and laughter.

All his little friends came out to support him too, so he was in his element.

All in all it is was a great day, ending at our local for a celebration with food, drink and cupcakes Mummy and Daddy had stayed up late making.

I hope he will appreciate our efforts at some stage but right now, one things for sure, I simply adore my little king.
