Well it’s been a busy week in the Borough of Kingston upon Thames and I’m not just talking major sewage works.
Last Sunday most of the roads were closed due to the RideLondon 100 race which meant we weren’t going anywhere.
It was quite nice actually and reminded me of the days when Sundays were actually a day of rest.
We went outside and my son ran wildly through the closed off street like a hunted gazelle.
It was quite surreal, as the last time Surrey was disrupted for a cycle race was 12 months ago for the Olympics.
It was a brilliant day and Michael and I took our son out in his pram to cheer on the likes of Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish as they whizzed past us.
We cheered, shouted and waved Union flags, well we wanted to wave flags, but the local shop had sold out. Anyway, we were there showing our support along with the thousands of people who lined the streets.
It was so exciting and a memorable experience for all of us. We took pictures so Elijah will know he was there, after all he was far too young to remember the moment.
So, a year later, here we are once again, out to show our support for the 10s of thousands of people taking part in this event.
Helicopters were flying around, police motorcycles were dotted about and cycles zoomed past causing much excitement for a little boy sitting on his daddy’s shoulders at a stage of his life where everything is fascinating and new.
I love these family moments. All that matters now are the times you are together and you can look back and say we all were there. Another one for the photo album.
