At the end of the day, all us parents want to do is to care and protect our children.

But sometimes after hearing the news and taking it all in, you do wonder what the world is coming to and whether it is a safe place for the little ones.

However, babies are born every minute and we have to get on with it and do our best without being overzealous.

I am aware of every movement my son makes, especially when we are out as he does have a tendency to run off without a care in the world and does not look back at all.

I have had to get some reins to make sure I keep hold of him especially as running with a bump is not an option right now.

He has also started to climb on the coffee table and dance around. I thought this was something I had to look forward to when he was 18 wanting to make a spectacle of himself, but no.

He is bounding around on the furniture attempting kamikaze jumps whenever he can. I need eyes at the back of my head for this 16-month-old as he simply has no fear.

I am also looking after the little one I am growing at the moment. There is not long to go and I have to make sure I do not overdo it as my friends keep telling me.

I have a tendency to want to do everything myself, whether it be cleaning, shopping, cooking or sorting bits for the new baby, but I guess that is only natural, being a mother, wanting to look after the home and the family.

So for now, work is taking a backseat as I look after the most precious things I have ever made. And I will protect them the best I can.
