Serious fire and crash close Richmond Road in Kingston
4:45pm Monday 19th May 2008
A police van was in a collision with a car while responding to a fatal fire in Kingston this afternoon.
The fire broke out in Richmond Road near the junction with St Alban's Road at about 3pm.
A man was pronounced dead at the scene and officers are awaiting formal identification.
The police van, believed to be on the way to the fire, was then in collision with a Volkswagon Polo in Richmond Road near the junction with Windsor Road at 3.10pm.
The driver of the Polo was taken to hospital suffering from minor injuries while two police officers were treated at the scene.
Richmond Road is currently closed between Kings Road and Durlston Road.
The 65 bus from Kingston to Ealing Broadway is also subject to diversions and there are major delays to traffic in the area.
