Dowson closes door on Beveney
Kingstonian boss Alan Dowson has vowed that striker Shawn Beveney will never play for the club again after he quit to join Blue Square South side Lewes last week.
The 25-year-old moved to the club from Dulwich Hamlet in February, sparking a return to form that has seen Ks win their past five matches.
A 3-2 triumph at Horsham YMCA and a 1-0 win against Leatherhead gave Dowson a perfect Easter tonic, lifting Ks back up to the Ryman Division One South play-off places.
Beveney featured in neither victory after his agent told the Ks chief he had trials with Aldershot and Grays Athletic reserves last week, before he appeared for Lewes in their 3-0 win at Sutton United.
And Dowson, who often leaves the door open for departing players, has admitted Beveney is one player he won't be seeing again.
"It is a disappointing situation. We rolled out the red carpet to get him here and this is how he repays us," he said.
"I got a call from somebody saying he was Shawn's agent last week and, at first, I thought he was trying to sell me a house.
"I can't believe somebody at this level has an agent. It is frightening.
"If he wants to go and play at a higher level then good luck to him, but he won't be playing for this club again."
Beveney failed to get on the scoresheet during his brief stint with Ks, but his most significant contribution could see them kicked out of the Surrey Senior Cup.
Ks are yet to learn their fate for fielding Beveney in last month's 4-0 semi-final victory over Tooting & Mitcham.
The Guyana international was illegible for the clash, but the Surrey FA are yet to rule on the situation despite it being discussed by the Challenge Trophies committee last week.
But Dowson, who takes his side to in-form Cray Wanderers on Sunday, has admitted the competition is a sideshow compared to the quest to secure a play-offs spot.
"If you gave me the choice between a point at Cray or a place in the Surrey Senior Cup final, I would take the point," he added.
"The priority is getting in the top five. We have got five cup finals between now and the end of the season."
A Bobby Traynor brace and a Gavin Cartwright header accounted for YMCA on Saturday before a Tom Williams free-kick dispatched the Tanners on Monday.
And Dowson believes the time is right to break Cray's unbeaten league run, which stands at 26 games.
"They are on an unbelievable run. Records are there to be broken, so there is no reason why we can't do it," he said.
* Sunday's match is at Bromley FC, where Cray Wanderers currently play their home games.

I doubt that Beveney was 'illegible' at Tooting, although his intentions were possibly difficult to read!! I think Phil means 'ineligible' ;-)
